Folklore Museum Ano Asites

Λαογραφικό Μουσείο Άνω Ασιτών

Distance from Earino: 1,5Κm

The inhabitants of an entire village contributed to the creation of the Folklore Museum of Ano Asiton, wanting in this way to preserve the history, customs and traditions of their place. The museum was founded in 1995 by the Cultural Association of Ano Asites while the effort was funded by all the villagers, who, depending on their abilities, each offered piece by piece the exhibits that are currently hosted in the museum

The Folklore Museum of Ano Asiton is dedicated to the last stone masonry of the village, Charalambos Anogiannakis, Ioannis Charalampakis and Evangelos Chronakis. In its rooms is represented a traditional Cretan house, with living room, bedroom, kitchen and its warehouse, where older tools are preserved, such as the wooden plow, but also stone bins used by the villagers to build their houses. At this point, it is worth noting that in Ano Asites the stone dominates, which makes the village so special.
